East Coast Outdoors

The Challenge

When parents send their child on a Duke of Edinburgh expedition, they’re not just investing in the qualification itself. They’re investing in confidence building, friendships, challenge and experiences that help young people grow.

The challenge for East Coast Outdoors was that the existing imagery wasn’t fully reflecting that experience. While it showed outdoor activities, it wasn’t communicating the atmosphere, teamwork or emotional journey behind a Duke of Edinburgh expedition programme.

For schools and parents, trust matters. The imagery needed to help people understand and feel the experience before students had even arrived.

The Approach

This Duke of Edinburgh photography shoot in Rendlesham Forest became much more than a content day. As East Coast Outdoors expands nationally, it was also an opportunity to establish a visual identity and storytelling approach that could work across multiple locations and Bronze, Silver and Gold expeditions.

Rather than focusing on isolated activities, the shoot documented the journey as it naturally unfolded. Navigation, teamwork, leadership, campcraft, problem solving and all the small in-between moments that make outdoor education experiences feel real.

The aim was to create immersive, story-led imagery that could support future marketing and create a consistent visual identity as the organisation grows.

The Outcome

East Coast Outdoors now has a much stronger visual foundation and a library of outdoor education and Duke of Edinburgh expedition photography that reflects not just what the expeditions look like, but what they actually feel like.

The images communicate challenge and resilience alongside warmth, community and support, helping schools and parents understand the wider value of the experience before a student even arrives.
